About Us
We are the charity arm of The Ethical Diamond Ring Co. We were set up to administer registration and donations to charities arising from conflict neutral diamond sales.
Although The Ethical Diamond Ring Co. is a commercial entity we operate independently and are a non profit making organisation. Every penny donated is distributed to a variety of charities and is fully traceable. Audit reports are posted on a regular basis. Our costs are covered by a £20 registration fee charged on application and any surplus is added to the fund. Registration of conflict neutral status is open to all and is available from your retailer.
A great deal of harm has come to people in Africa in ways connected to diamond sales. Thousands of people have been killed or maimed by weapons funded by illegal diamond sales. Our goal is to help those affected by these atricities. Others are working hard to regulate the sale of diamonds and this is an area where massive improvements have been made.
However, the people who gladly train children to be mass murderers are likely to be very resourceful and persuasive so it is probable that there will always be a small amount of leakage. We believe that in order to permanently eliminate these problems social and political stability is required.
We have three long term aims.
- To help those affected either directly or indirectly by diamond trading. This will be achived by support of local projects to provide fresh water, health care etc..
- To work towards more strict regulation of diamond sales to ensure that less and less blood diamonds find their way in to circulation.
-
To support stable non-corrupt govornments to help them to bring stability and adequate policing and facilities such that countries are able to restrict illegal trade themselves and provide for their own people.
